oh, how Light we are!

Moments of no consequence

Seem to make a lot of sense;

Like the gentle pitter patter

Of the things that do not matter

As I sit alone and stare;

Neither here and neither there.

Today I begin a six-week silent retreat at Wangapeka
in the autumn-tinted mountains near Nelson.
I take you all with me, and oh, how Light we are!

May your days be drenched with delight.

this is how it is

wanting nothing from God or the world
desiring nothing
striving for nothing
expecting nothing
the Divine provides this lifestream’s every need
physically, mentally, and heartfully

This is not an affirmation. This is how it is.

What do I mean by the Divine?

I mean the wisdom-intelligence – inconceivable and immeasurable – that powers the universe; that grows the hair on my head; that orders the cells in my body and the stars in the heavens; that breathes my breath and the tides of the oceans; that is the womb from which the entire creation emerges, and the consciousness which knows Itself.

Knows Itself?

Here, now, It knows Itself via this sensory bundle – perceiving, cognizing, creating sentences by tapping on a keyboard – and via the sentience of each and every being.

It knows Itself via the Light of Awareness that is this very moment reading these words and recognizing that they were uttered by your own dear Self.

By your own dear Self, for your own dear Self.

we are but shadows!

I crossed the gleaming sea last week
flew on whispering wings of silver
made soft landing on the Long White Cloud:
homeland Aotearoa.

When I left these shores decades ago
the mountains were mountains
and the rivers were rivers
and I was me.

I return.
And the mountains are mountains
the rivers are rivers
yet – their murmurings are now clear:
“We are but shadows!

The infinite incandescence
that displays our brilliant landscape
is the unlit Light
of your own Being.”

How sweet to find
that the only luggage I needed to bring
has always been on board –
going everywhere I roam
and lighting up every dark, lonely moment,
every quiver of earthly joy.

nothing could be easier

The simple, most utterly obvious and unavoidable state of Beingness is the very thing we imagine to be complex, hidden, and therefore needing to be sought via an infinite array of practices.

I came down a pathway which attempted to get at this simplicity by examining deeply and interminably the mental dynamics that sabotage one’s clear seeing/experiencing of It.

Perhaps it was a worthy pursuit – it was surely interesting and entertaining – but in terms of leading me closer to ‘It,’ it was a total waste of time.  It made no difference whatsoever to simple Beingness – which silently ‘watched’ the goings-on, immovable and changeless.

Eventually it all ground to a halt – the inquiry, the seeking, the fascination and the endless construction of concepts.  And there I was, right back AS I’d begun on Day 1, Breath 1:  Beingness – simple, obvious and unavoidable.

It is surely the most amazing and incomprehensible of things that turning away from the mind machine and embracing the inescapable Light of Being is so darned difficult for most of us.

Nothing – nothing – could be easier.  It is now!  It is this!  It is here!

the shock of shining recognition

you had become used to it,
the exiled state

it kept you in the company of
your countrymen
it kept you contained and
secure within shared values

but one bright moment
was all it took
and you were exiled from exile

you landed in that longed-for
Light-land
home
alone and all-One

and the shock of shining recognition
cracked open the voice you never knew
was your own

the voice that calls itself
“heart whisperer”
